Spoof Site Progress

Hey all. I just wanted to share with you what I've got going for my spoof site as I wasn't in class on Thursday. I'm going for a subtle approach, keeping the majority of their graphics, text styles, etc. the same but changing the imagery and what is said on each page. I'm redirecting links to take viewers to news articles, websites, and other sources that reveal the dirtier side of the company. Below are my spoofed home page and about page. Let me know what you think!

Kelsey

The three websites that I chose were all websites that revealed the truths that were pushed under the rug by these companies.  I wanted to bring the realties into the light to show how important it is when consuming these very large consumer products.  These are three of the most wealthy companies in the world.... but do they deserve all the positive press that they get? I don't think so.

KFC
I got this idea when I found out some extremely controversial information about what is done to these "kitchen fresh chickens".....

Coca-Cola
Playing on the whole past idea of coke in this soda, and how addicting the sugar contents actually are these days, and how it is adding to obesity.
(I know this image is pepsi but you get the idea.)

BP
Playing on the idea that they have caused such devastation with their oil spills... wildlife devastation, destruction of ocean and sea life in the south.

Spoof

http://www.apple.com/
Apple Makes amazing products that i have always loved. However, I feel that it has always been easy to make fun of thier advertising and marketing ideas.  I would change the prices, some videos and give the site a darker, evil corporation look.

http://www.asseenontv.com/
We are all familiar with the corney "as seen on tv" products that appear on infomercials at 3am.  These products are usually useless gadgets that are insanely overpriced.

http://www.6secondabs.com/
this site looks like a joke to begin with.  As another ass seen on tv product, this one is just to easy to make fun of.  Fitness is done with hard work, not with gimmick products.  I would make this site even more ridiculous with crazy testimonies and exaggerated results.

Spoofable

It would be cool to take the facebook homepage and manipulate people's profiles along with likeable pages. Instead of having people post only their nicest photoshopped pictures, they would be the worst pictures.

Seventeen Magazine is a very popular magazine among teenage girls, but what they don't realize is that everything isn't accurate. Though they do try and post things they are equal, most of the time they only show the skinny photoshopped girl. Instead I would change the quizzes that the site has and post more pictures and stories around the modern girl.

Etsy is an online store where you can buy homemade things. I think it would be funny to show the worst of peoples work, instead of the best. They could consist of mostly unfinished work and having the seller say it is their most beautiful piece yet.

Friendly's
http://www.friendlys.com
It's a great family oriented place to go for dinner and eat ice-cream. I would change the name and slogan. Along with the colors of the site to something not so vibrant. I would call it meanies and the food items wont seem as nice.

Amazon
http://www.amazon.com
Of all the hours that people have spent shopping online, I know I have spent my share of time on it. but why not give it a new look as well as name. I will call it Sahara, instead of a lush forest name. It'll be a dry dessert name. I would use dessert colors.

Hot Topic
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Homepage.jsp
Since this store is stereo typed as a gothic and scene I would change the name the name to "Pop Topic." I would make it pink and more girly where the employes wear the latest trends instead died hair and tripp pants. I would slightly some of the merchandise sold. It'll be so fetch!!!

Stumbling, tumbling, and falling on our faces: A Spoof of... the entire internet.

My spoof project is going to be aimed at the internet as a whole, and how sites like the following trick users into thinking they are spending their time wisely when they are in fact wasting it.

Pinterest:
Pinterest is a site where people essentially gawk at clothes, recipes, furniture, whatever. They can save ("pin") things they like to designated "boards" and look at them later when they have time. This site is actually pretty useful sometimes and I find myself sneaking on it all the time. My big issue with it however, is that it makes us live in the future. Instead of using my time to actually DO something, I am just constantly in a state of planning for things I want to do eventually and, in all likeliness, will not get to. If I ever get through all the recipes on my food board it will be a miracle, because I am constantly pinning and never cooking.

StumbleUpon:
Another offender of the "living in the future" mentality. StumbleUpon is a great time killer but it pawns itself of as an all purpose resource. When I use StumbleUpon, I think I am spending my time wisely and being super productive, finding great articles and resources for fitness, design, whatever I want! But what typically happens is these great finds are simply cataloged away with a click of a "stumble" button. Our short attention spans make us always want to keep "stumbling" and finding new things, it becomes a compulsion more than a resource.

Tumblr:
Ahh tumblr. Blogging made super easy. While the premise may seem nice, the useful applications are almost nonexistent. Tumblr has become a monumental waste of time. Depending on how many people you follow, you could spent a large portion of your time scrolling through your tumbr dash on any given day. And you will be entertained, and slightly more informed, but you will not be much better off. Your internet presence will be amazing, your physical presence will be lacking.

Spoof Sites

 BP Oil:

As we all know, BP has been criticized in the past for its damaging effects on the environment. Drilling in general is bad but it is also unfortunate that we are not investing into alternate sources of fuel. For this website, I'd want to change a lot of the imagery. I'd want to switch out the current jpgs for images of the oil spill. I'd also go in and rewrite their objective page to something more demeaning - emphasize that their looking to drill up every last drop until our oil runs dry.

Walmart:

For Walmart's page, I would want to go in and change the look of it so the site feels much more totalitarian. Big businesses like Walmart are defeating the competitive nature of the economy and destroying small businesses. To show this, I would rely primarily on text and give it a much darker color scheme. I would want to replace all their deals banners with something more sinister like, "We're cutting back our prices this weekend. They're so low, they've hit rock bottom just like our economy!"

Microsoft:

For Microsoft, I would want to show how their products recently are becoming more and more like Apples. They're trying to play catch up to keep up with their competitors and in my opinion, they're struggling. This can be seen with their latest move to Windows 8, the touch screen interface of disaster. I think one way to approach this spoof would be to put a bunch of Apple products on the Windows website and make it look as though they are selling it off as their own.

3 sites

Victoria Secret's "Pink" line focuses on clothing and lingerie for young, skinny girls.  As a spoof I could change it to "Grey" and fill the site with pictures of older women who maybe aren't super skinny.  And instead of thongs there could be like granny-panties and other modest under garments.  Also instead of the majority of the site being pink, the background, div tags, text and links could be all shades of grey.
Segways are those ugly, personal transportation machines that cops and tourists usually use to move around big cities.  I could focus on how they're the epitome of laziness and lead to obesity.  For example, saying that they have cup holders that can accommodate big-gulps and extras large soft-drinks.  All the pictures would also have obese people riding on them.
Fiji water is known for being high class, expensive and really good quality.  To spoof the site, I could have all the images be of a old, grummy bottles with just a cheap "Fiji" sticker on them.  The water source could be some dingy old gas-station water fountain and be the image on background of the index page.  Just overall make the bottling process and the final product look really dirty, cheap and disgusting.

3 different sites

Oh Medical marijuana, I would make this into Medical Marijuana & a Higher Tomorrow instead of Medical Marijuana & a better tomorrow. I think with this there could be a lot of twists to put in with college students and the connection of marijuana use as a "medicine" For example having a page thats For Caregivers hooking to SUNY Cortlands health services page about marijuana and how they give it out. I think that I would want to work with it because its a serious topic that is floating around and marijuana is all over our campus.

With this site I would want to do something like smokeless cigarettes still give you cancer, still contain tobacco and that kind of approach.  I would want to work with this because i've seen a lot of people die from cancer and get cancer from smoking and I feel like if you make the choice to smoke its your own fault when you get cancer. These cigarettes still contain a lot of nicotine so they are still extremely addicting and the amount of $ someone could spend is crazy!

I think carnival cruise would be really funny to do just because of the amount of ships they have had to doc and the amount of law suites they have had recently due to cruise's that have gone bad!

Things people will do to look young.

Aging gracefully is no longer. People constantly trying to look younger than they are. There are some products out there right now that are suppose to help you look younger, thinner and ultimately resulting you being more happy. One of the most ridiculous ones i found was a "Secret Lift" that is tape you put on your face that pulls your skin back so that your wrinkles are gone. I think this would be a great product to make fun of.

http://www.spanx.com/home/index.jsp?camp=kw=s5mNdw70R%7Cpcrid%7C25508124716%7Csite%3Awww.spanx.com%20spanks

http://cosmesearch.com/secretlift/index.html

I think it is really sad how people are so ashamed of growing older.  Wrinkle lines are a blessing many people lose their lives far too young growing old is a privilege. I understand why people have such a warped mind about looking young and thin and that is because from the time we can comprehend it has been shoved down our throats.  You must not look old and wrinkly or fat.

narrative text

http://diaz-arts.com/2009/11/text-self-portraits/

This website is a blog from a high school digital arts class called Diaz Arts. They used expressive words and phrases to create portraits using narrative text.

Narrative Text Example

After searching awhile for a good example of a typographic narrative, I came across an artist known as Leo Mancini. Here is a link to his website: http://leomancinidesign.com/portfolio

Below are several example of his narrative typography. He has used all sorts of type styles to convey meaning without any real imagery. While it isn't digital work, I think it really emphasizes the project we have been working on. Here is a link directly to his narrative typography section: http://leomancinidesign.com/portfolio/narrative-typography

incredible artist

I know this isn't internet design... but I thought it was so incredible, that I had to share it!!
At just 22 years old, Italian artist Diego Fazo has developed the skill to create photo-realistic drawings using a simple charcoal pencil. His latest creation, pictured below, has drawn hundreds of positive comments on his Deviant Art profile.
Don’t tell me you can tell the image below is a drawing and not a high-definition photograph, because I don’t buy it. In fact people were so skeptical this incredible piece of art was drawn by hand that young Diego Fazo had to put up some photos of the work in progress just to lay doubts to rest. And looking at his-mind-blowing masterpiece, can you really blame people for  questioning it’s hand-drawn?
Like other talented artists who started their careers on Deviant Art, Diego is a self-taught pencil master whose technique matured with the passing of the years. He started out as a tattoo artist, and developed a passion for creating photo-realistic drawings. Inspired by the works of Japanese artists from the Edo period, like Katsushika Hokusai, he managed to capture people’s imaginations with his precise lines and oriental drawing techniques.

Here are Pictures of My Textual Narrative

Since I didn't have the files for class on Thursday, I figured I'd post what I'm doing with my site. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Here are the pics I have for the first two pages:

I included the down and up state for the links that navigate you through the site.
